Prague is known for its diverse architecture and museums, along with the historical value of certain places, where to enjoy nature and see more different things. There are tons of castles, hikes, view points to explore.
Although it will take at least five days to complete an overall visit and get a sense of the city’s culture , without rushing but the main sites can be completed if you spend two days there !
We came in to Prague from Berlin vis the train with picturesque views accompanying us.
So, here is how to spend two days in Prague.
- Start at Prague’s Old Town Square.
- See the famous Astronomical clock
- Walk on the Charles Bridge
- Walk under Charles bridge too
- See Čertovka – the Devil’s canal
- Explore Mala Strana or the lesser town
- Head to the Prague Castle
- Have a boat ride on the Vatalva River
- Watch the sunset at Letna Park .
You can explore all these places by riding hop on hop off bus ride.
The best part of the Prague to stay at the old town which offers the best night life as the Prague is also famous for it’s abundant and cheap night life , extensive shopping options. Accommodations in Old Town are just minutes away from historic attractions, shopping and night life. There are various types of hotels , one can choose according to budget and availability.
The best time to visit Prague is in late spring or early fall , just before and after the peak summer tourist season. Plan to arrive in May or September for comfortable temperatures around 18 to 20 degree Celsius , ideal for sightseeing without having to battle big crowds.Lower airfares and reduced hotel rates may be found too!
As the official currency , the Czech crown is the and often the only possible currency to use when paying . Although the Czech Republic is part of the European Union, the euro is not widely accepted here. Some stores , restaurants and hotels accept payments in euros but the exchange rate may not be very favourable.

Prague’s “Old Town” is a medieval settlement, joined later by Charles IV’s New Town in the 14 th century, transforming Prague into the third largest city in Europe.
- When you are in Prague you must walk across the Charles Bridge.Built by King Charles IV and finished at the beginning of the 15th Century. It was the only way to crossing the river until the 1840s and connects Old Town and Castle district.
- Make a wish statue on Charles Bridge – John of Nepomuk was thrown into the river . It is a common belief that if you touch this cross and make a wish it will come true within a year and a day. Another way to make a wish here is to place each of your fingers on the five stars located on a plaque below the cross.
- Charles Bridge is a medieval stone arch bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague , Czech Republic.It’s construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the early 15th Century.It has been referred to as “Charles Bridge”since 1870.
- Old Town Square – the most important historical place at Prague.
- Prague Astronomical Clock and The St. Vitus Cathedral is the most important places to visit.
- The Prague Astronomical Clock or Prague Orloj is a medieval astronomical clock attached to the Old Town Hall in Prague .
- The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third – oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus , is a Roman Catholic metropolitan cathedral in Prague , the seat of the Archbishop of the Prague.The Cathedral is a prominent example of Gothic architecture, and largest and most important church in the country.The Cathedral is a place of burial of several patron saints , sovereigns , nobleman and archbishops.
Next we will be at Prague Castle which is in the Guinness Book of World Records.
That makes it the largest ancient castle in the world , according to the Guinness Book of World Records.Prague Castle was most likely founded in around 880 and it is the largest coherent castle complex in the world , with an area of almost 70,000 meter square.
The city of Prague is normally called ‘The Golden city of one hundred spires ‘ but often it is called “The golden city of five hundred spires”and “The golden city of one thousand spires”. Prague is called this because of its beautiful cathedrals and pointy spires.
The Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague , Czech Republic , built in in the ninth century. It is the official office of the President of Czech Republic.The castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors,and presidents of Czechoslovakia. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside it.
The castle is among the most visited tourist attractions in Prague attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually.
Most of the castle areas are open to tourists. The castle houses several museums, including the National Art Gallery collection of Bohemian baroque and mannerism art, exhibition dedicated to Czech history, Toy museum and the picture gallery of Prague Castle , based on the collection of Rudolfh II.
- Why is Prague Castle Black – It’s name ‘ Black’ originating from the time of the big fire of the Prague Castle in 1541- it’s walls remained black for a long time. However, the tower was called ‘ Golden’ in the era of Emperor Charles IV in the 14th century. It was because of it’s roof , which was covered with glided plates of lead.
Bertramka- It is a villa in Prague notable because of possible visits by Mozart.Now it is a museum dedicated to the memory of Mozart and to the former owners and Mozart’s hosts.
Don Giovanni – It is regarded as one of the greatest operas of all time and has proved a fruitful subject for commentary in its own right; critic, Fiona Maddocks has described it as one of Mozart’s ‘ trio of masterpieces’ with librettos by Da Ponte. The opera features a character named Don Giovanni , a licentious Spanish Noble Man with a reputation for seducing and abusing woman. The opera chronicles Don Giovanni’s exploits and his relations with the characters Donna Anna, Donna Elvira and Zerlina and his eventual downfall. Mozart completed the opera in Prague at the village Bertramka, the home of friends.
The Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic, running southeast along the Bohemian Forest and then north across Bohemia ,and it is commonly referred to as the ‘Czech national river’.
Both the Czech name Vltava and the German name Moldau are believed to originate from the old Germanic words .. wilt ahwa which means ‘Wild Water’.
Visit to Prague is incomplete if you don’t take a cruise over this river.It’s indeed a beautiful experience to be with while visiting at Prague.
